The Leeds Book Awards, a collaborative endeavor between Leeds Libraries and Leeds 2023, serves as a grand celebration of the world of literature and aims to foster a love for reading. Every participating school receives a thoughtful selection of books to engage their students in reading, discussions, and voting for their favorite title.
The culmination of this literary journey occurs with the tallying of votes from all participating schools, resulting in the announcement of the winner at an elegant awards ceremony hosted at Elland Road. Our dedication to the cause is underscored by the privilege of having our students present the KS4 category nominations on stage and bestow the award upon the winning author.
Harvey, Helena, Sam, Evelin, Heloysa and Olivia have been selected as the students who will have the honour of announcing the winning KS4 author on the grand stage, with esteemed authors and fellow schools as their audience. Their selection stems from a previous book awards excursion during which they diligently recorded excerpts from the shortlisted books. These recordings will be featured at the awards ceremony, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Subsequently, the school will be actively participating in the Marketplace event at Leeds Central Library the following day. This event offers our students an opportunity to immerse themselves in workshops centered around the featured books and interact with the esteemed authors and illustrators in attendance.
Siobhan Roberts, Head of School, expressed her immense pride and said, 'I could not be prouder of Harvey, Helena, Sam, Evelin, Heloysa and Olivia. Their dedication to the Leeds Book Awards and their selection to announce the winning KS4 author is a testament to their hard work and passion for literature. It's a momentous occasion for our school, and I have every confidence they will represent us with grace and distinction.’
