Course Description:

Length of course: 3 years (3hrs a week)

BTEC courses are different from GCSE courses:

  • The qualification is 60%
  • Every piece of coursework counts towards your final grade.
  • Keeping your folder of evidence is vital as this is the only way your work can be assessed.
  • Each BTEC course is made up of a number of units. One which will be and external assessed task which is 40% towards your final grade.
  • Each unit is graded either: Level 1 Pass, L1 Merit, L1 Distinction or Level 2 Pass, L2 Merit, L2 Distinction or L2D*.
  • To gain each level you must provide evidence of all of the criteria in every unit.
  • Vocational courses encourage you to take a more active part in your learning.
  • You will also need to take responsibility for your learning by planning your work, carrying out research, and regularly reviewing your progress.

BTEC Tech Awards Level 1/2 course are also:-

  • Vocational courses help to prepare you for the both the world of work and further education. BTEC tech award courses help you to develop organisation, time management and presentation and research skills.
  • All these are highly valued by employers.
  • If you are planning to go on to further education you will have developed all the above skills plus essential independent study skills – highly valued by colleges and universities.

 With a BTEC Tech Award in Health & Social Care, students are able to explore, challenge and realise their potential.  During the course, students can see whether the industry is one they’d like to be in, where they could go, and gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their next steps.

After completing the course, you can continue on to further vocational and academic study at level 2 and level 3, as well as apprenticeships and traineeships.

What’s more, the practical transferable skills your students master during their studies such as self- reflection, communication, teamwork and problem solving will also support their progress in the present and in the future.
